Marlene Laws Keylon

Marlene Laws Keylon, 63, died October 22, 2010 with her family by her side in Murray, UT. She was born November 19, 1946 in Blanding, UT to Harry and Marva Laws. Both were long time residents of Blanding and Marlene called Blanding home for many years.
After surviving rheumatic fever at a young age, Marlene grew up strong, working with her parents on their ranch near Blanding.
She was good hearted and a hard worker and many admit it was impossible to get one up on Marlene. She graduated from San Juan High School in 1965 and attended Utah State University.
After completing a degree in Social Work, she returned to Blanding to find employment. In the spring of 1970 she met Harold Keylon, a young soldier stationed in the area after serving in Vietnam. They were married December 18, 1970 and quickly moved to El Paso, TX, where Harold was given a job on the fire department.
Marlene made a home in Texas as she welcomed her two daughters Misty and Kori into her family.
She made many friends during her time in El Paso who shared their interests and cultural diversity with Marlene. She returned with her family to Blanding in 1989 and devoted more of her life serving the Navajo people as a social worker in Bluff, UT.
She opened her home to the children of her brother Robert Laws and his wife Renae after their tragic deaths in 2000. She spent some of the last years of her life caring for her mother until Marva died in 2007.
Marlene loved animals and plants of all kinds and she taught others around her to care for them too. She quilted and she gardened. She did upholstery and she was always plotting for her next new project.
She loved the outdoors and toured people around the Four Corners area to see rock formations, mountain vistas and breathtaking desert views. She was a loving wife, a kind mother, a devoted sister and a dependable friend. The world will be a lonelier place for many of us without her.
Marlene is survived by her husband Harold Keylon, daughters Misty Merkel and Kori Keylon, as well as her siblings LouAnn Grover, Norma Child and Boyd Laws. She also leaves to remember her a grandson, John Keegan Merkel (Jack), who will miss his grandma very much.
