Larue Woodhouse McDaniel

LaRue Woodhouse McDaniel passed away at her home in Blanding, UT on October 25, 2009.

She was born on May 9, 1931 in Salt Lake City, UT to Anthony Forrester Woodhouse and Pauline Thompson.

LaRue grew up in Beaver, UT. She graduated from Beaver High School in 1949 and went on to attend Branch Agricultural College in Cedar City, UT.

After receiving an associated degree at B.A.C., she went to Logan to attend Utah State University. She graduted in 1953 with a degree in Child Development and Elementary Education. Her first teaching job was in Stockton, CA.

On June 29, 1954, she married Jay D. McDaniel in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Chist of Latter-day Saints.

They are the parents of nine children. They spent their first two years in Logan and then moved to Vernal, where they both taught school.

The family moved to Pocatello, ID in 1957, where she taught school. In 1962, the family moved to the Tongan Islands, where Jay taught at Liahona High School for the Church Education System.

They loved the islands and the warm-hearted people. In 1968, after fulfilling two contracts, they returned to the states and settled in Blanding, UT.

Soon after they moved to Blanding, LaRue began teaching again. She loved teaching and touched the lives of many children. After teaching for 22 years for the San Juan School District, she retired in May, 1994.

She was involved in community service. She served as a Blanding City Councilwoman for four years.

In March of 1995, Jay and LaRue received a mission call to serve in the Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Mission, where they worked in a Family History Center and the City Archives.

She had many, many friends and loved spending time with them. She loved to travel and went on many trips with her friends. She loved her family and loved being with them. She tried her best to attend all of her children and grandchildren’s special events, She will be missed beyond measure.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents and an infant son, Tony.

She is survived by eight children, Melanie (Craig) Monson, of Vernal, UT; Lance (Diane) McDaniel, of St. George, UT; Natalie (Bret) Gneiting of Spring Creek, NV; Kirt (Kristin) McDaniel of Hurricane, UT; Chad (Tanielle) McDaniel of West Jordan, UT; and Carrie (Gary) Bayles, Val (Robin) McDaniel, and Adele (Shelby) Seely all of Blanding.

She is also survived by three sisters, Florence (Mell) Stewart of Cedar City, UT; Karma Anderson of Beaver, UT; and Mary Faye (Kent) Marshall of Minersville, UT; one brother, Nat (Glory) Woodhouse of Merced, CA; 24 granddaughters; 16 grandsons; and ten great grand children.

Funeral services were held October 30, 2009 in the Blanding LDS Stake Center, in Blanding, UT.

Burial was in the Blanding City Cemetery under the direction of San Juan Mortuary.
