Alan William Larson
January 2, 1933 ~ May 11, 2011
Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Alan W. Larson, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 with his wife by his side.
Alan was born in Ambridge, PA on January 2, 1933 to Alvin and Hazel Burns Larson. He was proud to serve his country as a military policeman during the Korean War, and was active in the American Legion, Wayzata Post #118.
He met his bride at Brigham Young University, where he graduated with a degree in engineering. After attending Northwestern University and working in the Chicago area, he took an engineering position with General Mills.
He worked at General Mills for 35 years and enjoyed lasting friendships. Alan was proud of his many accomplishments in the field of industrial engineering with an emphasis in energy management.
Alan and Irene are active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They have served as missionaries in the Hawaii Honolulu Mission. Alan served faithfully in many church callings over the years. He particularly enjoyed his years of serving in the Boy Scout organization, where he earned his Wood Badge.
His many passions included loving his family, camping and canoeing. He spent many summers in the Boundary Waters with each of his daughters, several of his grandchildren, usually accompanied also by his brother, David.
Alan loved working in the yard at his Plymouth home for 45 years. A favorite wintertime activity was skiing; he taught in the Wayzata Ski Jammer program for ten years, also teaching his daughters and several of his grandchildren the sport of skiing. We will indeed miss his love, his stories, and his laughter.
Alan is survived by his wife of 52 years, Irene Semadeni Larson; his daughters Roxanne (Delon) Williams, Valerie (Earle) Anderson, Vivianne (Kerry) Schoenecke, Adele (William) Winkelman, Margo (Clifford) Blair; 13 beloved grandchildren, and loved brother, David Lawrence Larson. Alan is preceded in death by his parents.
Services were held May 17 at the Plymouth Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Plymouth, MN. Interment at Fort Snelling Cemetery, with full military honors.
