New 4-H clubs offered

Parents, are you looking for fun summer activities in which your children can participate? A new group of leaders have come together to provide opportunities in Family and Consumer Sciences for youth in San Juan County.

Clubs come in many different forms. Some are held throughout the year, some are held just in the summer or during the school year, and some in the form of 1-2 day camps. It depends on the leader as to what they want to do.

If your child is interested please be aware that parent participation is needed (1-6 hours).

To register there will be a $1 charge, in addition to any cost depending on the clubs you choose.

4-H is for youth ages 8-17. Clover Buds is for you ages 5-7. Depending on the volume of interest to any one club, there might be space limitations or cancellations. Look for the sign-up flier being sent home from school with your child.

A great variety of clubs and camps are being offered this summer. Miriam Peterson is bringing back her popular Robotics Camps.

Aquabots for ages 11 and up will be held July 22-25 from 12:30-5 p.m. Cost is $6.

Wilderness Dataloggers for age 11 and up will be held July 29-August 1 from 12:30-5 p.m. Cost is $6.

Peterson will also do a Rocket Camp on June 13-14 for ages 10 and up, unless accompanied by an adult. Sign up and pay at Cindy’s Seconds Store by May 26. Cost is $10.

The GPS Day Camp will be held August 12-13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for ages 8 and up. Cost is free, unless you want to purchase a travel bug for $6.

There will be a GPS Training meeting for adults on August 12 at 7 p.m. If you have questions call 587-3108.

Gabby Sheeran will be leading some fun clubs for Clover Buds (ages 5-7).

Jenna LaRose will offer a Science Camp on June 16 and 23 for kids 8-12. For Pokemon fans, Jenna will host a camp on July 15, 22 and 29.

Julie Montgomery and Cathy Hatch will head up sewing clubs. The sewing camp will be on June 30-July 1.

Alison Montgomery is interested in teaching children the joys of video production.

Julie and Greg Montgomery will also teach some outdoor cooking, if there is enough interest.

Susan Reeve is interested in teaching cake decorating, cooking and bread making.

Tauna Larson will provide Art and Drama Camps if there is enough interest. Quilting is also a specialty of hers that she wants to share with those interested.

“Keep it Green: 4-H Green” is a program that teaches children about how to take care of the environment and Tauna is willing to teach this also.

The SK-8 Club will be having a camp on May 27-30 for 4-6th grade students at the skate park in Monticello. Beginners will be from 9-10:30 a.m. and Intermediate will be from 10:30-Noon.

Organizers hope this is a start of great 4-H programs to come. Come join the FUN!
