Musical coming to MHS

The Monticello High School drama department is working hard to prepare Once Upon a Mattress to open February 13.  It is the first school musical at MHS in many years.
More than 30 members of the cast fill the stage with riotous singing, dancing, and trickery. In the words of Princess Winnifred, “It’s a nut house!”
Once Upon a Mattress is the “true” story of “The Princess and the Pea.”  The Minstrel (played by Adam Rowley), tells the story as he saw it unfold when he stopped at the castle on his way to Normandy.
He discovers that the country has a law that no one may wed until Prince Dauntless (Dallin Anderson) does.  The queen (Mariah Frost) is trying to prevent his marriage by making up tests so the princesses cannot prove they are “real” princesses.
Enter Princess Winnefred the Woebegone (Martha Beh), princess #13.
Other major roles are played by Clarissa Jack, Dave Fellmeth, Lydia Chadwick, Shylee Allen, and Juston McKinney.  Probably the biggest role of all is played by the chorus of singers and dancers.
Once Upon a Mattress is produced by agreement with R & H Theatricals.  Music is by Mary Rodgers; lyrics by Marshall Barer; and book by Jay Thompson, Marshall Barer, and Dean Fuller.
