More than 70 entries to story contest

Ride the San Juan, a poem by Janet Wilcox, is the grand prize winner in the San Juan County Public Lands Story Contest.
The contest, sponsored by the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies at Brigham Young University, drew more than 70 entries.
Several of the winning entries are printed in the San Juan Record and will be highlighted in a special issue of Blue Mountain Shadows.
Entrants were asked to describe their experiences on public lands within the county. Jessie Embry, director of the Charles Redd Center at BYU, said she is pleased with the response and with the quality of the entries. She adds that additional entries are always welcome.
Each entry can be read at www.sanjuancountystorycontest.org. The website also contains 29 oral histories and a copy of the booklet Stories Told: Life on the Public Lands in San Juan County
