Monticello High School has a new principal

Lewis Whitaker will assume the principal duties at Monticello High School on November 1. Whitaker, who has served as the assistant principal at the high school for a little more than one year, replaces Scott Shakespeare as the interim principal through the remainder of the school year.
Shakespeare recently accepted a position at the Cinnamon Hills Youth Crisis Center in St. George and will leave at the end of the week. He served as the principal at Monticello High School since August, 2006.
Earlier in the year, Shakespeare resigned his position as a member of the Monticello City Council.
Whitaker has taught in the San Juan School District for eight years. He taught language arts at Monument Valley High School for four years, before transferring to Monticello High, where he taught for one year. He is in his third year as assistant principal at the school.
Whitaker and his wife Diana are the parents of seven children. They live in Eastland.
