Monticello High band receives superior rating
The Monticello High School Symphonic Band received a “Superior” rating at the UMEA State Concert Band Festival held May 1, 1020 at Jordan High School.
The band, making its return to the state festival after several years of absence, was praised for its rhythmic excellence and controlled tone.
Dr. Diane Solberg, a judge from B YU- Idaho stated that the band “looked fantastic on stage; thank you for your excellent preparation and commitment to your music and each other”.
Band director Wayne Erickson reported that the MHS Band was rated higher than any other 1A school band at the Festival. “You can say we are the state champs,” said Erickson. “The students in our band have worked hard and have earned that title”.
Other 1A bands at the State Festival included Dugway and Whitehorse. Both gave excellent performances.
The 38 member band, along with other MHS music groups, will perform at the annual “Spring Concert” May 17 at 7 p.m. in the MHS Auditorium. The groups are under the direction of Wayne Erickson. The public is invited.
