Aneth man found guilty of murder
A federal jury convicted Randy Lansing, age 40 of Aneth, for murder in the second degree.
The four-day trial took place before U.S. District Court Judge David Nuffer at the United States District Courthouse in Salt Lake City and was prosecuted by United States Attorney Trina A. Higgins and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Tad May and Tanner Zumwalt.
According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, Lansing, killed his girlfriend, Tammy Clark, on April 23, 2022.
The evidence presented at trial established Lansing drove Ms. Clark, her two young daughters and a second woman to McElmo Creek, where he parked his blue SUV and started drinking beer.
Lansing then violently beat Clark in front of her two young daughters and the second woman. Clark sustained significant injuries.
Neighbors and EMTs attempted life saving measures after Clark’s beaten body was taken by the defendant from McElmo Creek to Aneth. An ambulance arrived and transported Clark to Blue Mountain Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
“The strongest piece of evidence is Tammy Clark’s body. Tammy Clark’s body tells of the brutal beating she experienced during her last moments of life,” said U.S. Attorney Trina A. Higgins during closing arguments.
The case was investigated jointly by the FBI Salt Lake City Field Office Monticello Resident Agency and Navajo Nation Police Department, Criminal Investigations.
Lansing’s sentencing is scheduled for May 17, 2024, before U.S. District Court Judge David Nuffer at the United States District Courthouse in downtown Salt Lake City.
