Man injured in shooting

A Monticello man was critically injured on January 10 when he was shot in the jaw with a .38-caliber pistol in what has been called a “freak accident”.
Paul Langston was looking at firearms at a home in the Eastland area when the pistol apparently fell off of a small box and discharged. He was hit in the jaw at close range and received severe injuries to his jaw, face and head.
As of the press deadline on January 12, Langston is listed in stable and critical condition at St Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, CO. It is expected that he will undergo surgery to remove the bullet.
Family and friends have created a website to provide updates at http://gfwd.at/14lyfb6.
Deputies from the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident and believe the shooting was accidental.
