Locals compete at ranch rodeo national finals

The National Finals of Ranch Rodeo were held in Winnemucca, Nevada on November 3-6, 2011.
Three local men qualified during the summer and competed at this nationally-televised event.
Preston Grover and Shawn Ivins of Blanding, and Jim Keyes of Monticello were members of a team with Shamus Haws of  Erda, UT.  The team contended with other qualifying groups from around the United States.
Each team at the Finals competed in five events in hopes of being named “World Champion.”
The events are Calf Branding, Sort and Rope Doctoring, Trailer Loading, Slick Horn Team Roping, and Tie Down Steer Roping.  The Finals also hosted the world’s largest ranch bronc riding competition.
The local team finished in the top twenty with a team from the Hairpin Ranch in Dillon Montana being named World Champion Ranch Rodeo Team.
Shawn Ivins, Jim Keyes, and Shamus Haws recently competed in the calf branding event at the 2011 Ranch Rodeo National Finals.
