Local cattleman receives Legacy Award

Dean Robinson, long-time resident of Monticello, received the Legacy Award from the Utah Cattlemen’s Association.
Dean was honored at a luncheon during the UCA’s annual convention in December at the Sheraton Hotel in Salt Lake City.
The word “legacy” means to pass something on and Dean has done that.  In his life he has been a friend to many, and an example to all about what is right with agriculture.
Dean and his family have been operating KS Summers Livestock, now called Robinson Livestock, for three generations in the canyon country of southeastern Utah.
His father-in-law Ken Summers came to San Juan County in the 1920’s and began building a ranch.  Dean took over management of the outfit with Ken’s death in 1980.
Dean has spent a lifetime caring for livestock dealing with blizzards, drought, insects, and all other forms of maladies including the BLM and Forest Service.
Through it all he has maintained a smile and a willingness to always find something to laugh about.
Dean’s wife Jean has always been a huge influence in the management of the ranch.  Like her father before her, she has always taken a strong interest in the running of the cattle operation.  Like most all-ranching couples, the two of them make a very good team.
Dean is a fixture of the cattle industry in the Four Corners Area.  Everybody knows him, and everyone takes the time to talk to him.  He has definitely left a legacy.
