Utah State Legislature is in full swing

It’s that time of the year again. The 2025 Utah Legislative session is in full swing. As a resident of rural Utah, I remember past years following the news coming out of Capitol Hill and feeling like I wasn’t being heard.
The issues and concerns that are top of mind for Utahns on the Wasatch Front are not the same as those facing me and my family.
That’s why I decided to run for the Utah House of Representatives last year. I wanted to ensure that rural voices were given their due and that our part of the state was not just seen as the backdrop for tourism campaigns.
Thanks to the support of many volunteers, friends, and family, I was elected, and I’m currently spending my days up on Capitol Hill working to make good on my promise to amplify rural voices in the conversations about the future of our state. I’ve learned a lot already, and am excited to continue finding ways to represent you and your families.
Here is an update about what I have been up to so far. I serve on the House Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Environment Committee, which gives me a voice in discussions on issues crucial to rural families, such as water rights, farming, and carbon energy.
I also serve on the House Health and Human Services committee, where my professional expertise as a nurse gives me a valuable perspective as we discuss how we can make Utah a happier and healthier place to live.
In addition to my committee assignments, I sponsored multiple pieces of legislation, including tax credits for volunteer firefighters, funding for substance abuse and mental health treatment, and protecting grazing rights. To keep an eye on what I’m up to, visit my page on house.utleg.gov.
I’m incredibly grateful to be your representative. Thank you for your continued support, I wouldn’t be here without you. If you’d like to continue hearing from me throughout the session, please subscribe to my newsletter votemonson.com/newsletter or reach out to me directly at lmonson@le.utah.gov with any questions or concerns.
Let’s keep building rural Utah, while protecting the things that make it so special to begin with! Thank you!
