Thoughts on Dads from their fans

On Father’s Day it’s fun to think about our dads and why we love them, but it’s even more fun to take a look at dads (and grand-dads) from the perspective of their biggest fans—their kids. Here are some favorites, collected from children of all ages:
“Dad’s favorite saying? ‘Stupid Hurts.’ So don’t do stupid things.”
“When we had eggnog I asked my dad, “What are those funny little brown things floating around in my eggnog?” and he said, “Oh, don’t worry about it. Those are just the nogs.”
My grandpa likes to say, “I teach him all I know and he still doesn’t know anything!”
“When Dad comes home from work he empties out his pockets and puts it on the dresser. He usually has about .75 cents. I think that’s how much he gets paid each day to go to work.”
“My dad can say words that I can’t.”
“Grandpa has a sweet tooth. He has a big boxful of candy bars that he hides from Grandma so he can sneak one anytime he wants. Sometimes when we go to visit, he gives us all a candy bar when Grandma isn’t looking.”
“I like my dad because he reads Darth Vader books with me.”
“My dad gives the bestest hugs!”
“I like to wrestle on the floor with my Dad, but we can’t cry. He says, ‘If you’re gonna play rough, then ya gotta be tough.’”
“Daddy holds my hand when we go for a walk, and I feel safe and loved.”
“The best thing about family vacation is that we get to have our dad all to ourselves for a whole week! “
“I like my dad because he lets us eat cereal for dinner. My mom puts the cereal way up high so we can’t get into it, but he is tall so he can reach anything, even the cereal.”
“I know my dad trusts me. When I turned 16, he gave me my own set of keys to the car and the house.”
“I don’t know why, but sometimes my grandpa watches TV with his eyes closed.”
“When we had Saturday morning pancakes, there were little dots of batter on the griddle that looked like miniature pancakes. My dad told me they were pancake seeds, so I got a cup of dirt and planted them. I watered them every day—until they molded. I think he was just kidding me.”
“Dad says, ‘When you’re driving through snow or mud, always remember: He who hesitates gets stuck.’ He was right.”
“Our dad always says, “Do good, Be good.”
“I felt like a princess when my dad bought me the prom dress of my dreams and told me I was beautiful.”
“One time I heard a bear growling in the night. I was so scared! But I knew Daddy would keep me safe, so I got out of bed and tiptoed to his room. When I got there, I found out that the bear was just my dad. He was snoring.”
“My parents are divorced and my dad lives in St. George, but when we had a daddy-daughter activity, he drove all the way to Monticello to be here with me.”
“We felt left out when we didn’t get to go to the Fathers and Sons outing with Dad and the boys, so Daddy took us girls to the grocery store; He let us choose anything we wanted in the whole store for a treat. Anything! Even a whole bucket of ice cream! He must be awfully rich!”
“Dad taught me how to drive a stick-shift pickup. He told me to find the ‘sweet spot’ and then let off on the clutch. When I couldn’t find the sweet spot, the pickup went lurching and bucking down the street. Dad said that was okay, he enjoyed a good rodeo every now and then, but judging from the look on his face, I don’t think he meant it.”
“Grandpa lets me fix his hair with ribbons and barrettes and then he looks so funny it makes me giggle.”
“My dad can fix cars and open pickle jars and swing me up onto his shoulder and drive a truck.”
“Daddy holds me tight during thunderstorms.”
Thanks, Dad! You’re awesome! Happy Father’s Day.
