Lady Broncos at state tennis
The San Juan Bronco girls tennis team closed the year with a strong finish at the 2A state tournament. Three Bronco teams won matches, with the doubles team of Brenna Bleggi and Brittney Macdonald advancing all the way to the championship match in 2nd doubles.
Bleggi and Macdonald finished second, but not before taking their Rowland Hall competition to the limit. They won the first set 7-5, but fell in excrutiatingly close tie-breakers in the final two sets.
Bleggi and Macdonald marched through early matches against Waterford and St. Josephs to advance to the final.
Lexus Latham advanced to the semifinal match in 1st singles with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Maeser Prep before running into the eventual champion from Rowland Hall. Latham scored better than anyone else against the champ, but it isn’t enough for the win.
Klea Hurst advanced to the semifinal match in third singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win before falling to the eventual champion.
Also competing for the Lady Broncos are Ciara Lyman in 2nd singles and Kiley Averette and Emily Royer in 1st doubles.
At the region meet, Bleggi and Macdonald were first, Latham, Lyman and Hurst second, and Averette and Royer fourth.
