Lady Broncos drop region opener

The Lady Broncos dropped their Region 15 opener to Emery on January 8, 51-31. San Juan managed to keep in the game through the first half, trailing only by five, 20-15.
The Spartans used a strong second half to pull away from the Broncos and secure the win.
The Broncos started out the first quarter ice cold, missing their first six attempts from the field. The result of the slow start was a 10-point deficit for San Juan, as they trailed Emery 14-4 after one.
San Juan battled back in the second quarter, outscoring the Spartans 11-6, cutting the lead in half. At the half, the Broncos were down just five points, 20-15.
Emery came out of the intermission on fire, scoring 14 points in the third and 17 points in the fourth quarter while holding San Juan to eight points in the third and eight points in the fourth.
The Broncos are now 0-1 after falling to Emery 51-31, while the Spartans are 1-0 in Region 15 play.
The Broncos only had three girls score in the game. Sara Morley led all scorers with 13 points to go along with seven rebounds and four blocked shots.
Kelsey Flavel finished with 10 points, two rebounds and two steals, and Tyla Morris scored eight points, pulled down three rebounds and dished out three assists.

The Broncos next two games will be on the road, as they travel to Grand and Wasatch Academy this week. On Thursday they head to Mt. Pleasant, UT to take on the Tigers of Wasatch Academy. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
