Jennifer Acox named Monticello Citizen of Year

Jennifer Acox was named the Monticello Citizen of the Year on December 7. The recognition was made by Monticello Mayor Tim Young at the annual Monticello High School Holiday Concert.
Acox was nominated for the annual award by the Monticello Rotary Club. The winning citizen is selected by the Monticello City Council.
In the nomination for Acox, the Rotary Club said, “Jennifer is often seen around Monticello volunteering her time assisting with large scale projects and seems to be willing to help ‘anyone in need’.
“She has spent countless hours helping Roma Patel at her hotel, painting, cleaning, and repairing. She is often seen cleaning storm water drains to help prevent flooding after a heavy rain.
“With her father Craig, Jennifer continues to volunteer her time to help maintain Veteran’s Park.
“She bought and restored an eyesore home, cleaning up the yard, remodeling and restoring it, and providing an additional livable home in our community.
“Her efforts on behalf of the Monticello Rotary Club, of which Jennifer is not a member, during the annual Indian Summer Festival, were tremendous and without which, we would not have had such a successful event.
“She has put in countless hours over the years, making contacts for donations and advertisement, for this and other events, to the benefit of not only the Rotary Club, but also the community at large.
Jennifer is a hard worker, enthusiastic, and always brain-storming to help provide something engaging. We are proud to nominate Jennifer Acox for the 2015 Citizen of the Year Award!”
The Citizen of the Year is presented to a resident for service to the community. Carol Van Steeter is the most recent recipient.
