My name is Jean Holiday Nimrod, I am from Train Rock; located within the Oljato—Monument Valley, Utah area.
I am running for San Juan County School Board District 5.
As a 31-year educator and parent of four children, I have obtain teaching certifications within the states of Arizona & Utah for elementary, middle and high school.
I am also a former volleyball, basketball and softball coach.
My education includes:
Associate of Science -- College of Eastern Utah
Bachelor of Science---Southern Utah State University
Master of Education -- Northern Arizona University (NAU)
PHD in Educational Psychology—NAU (in process).
In my career experiences, I have worked for Monument Valley High School in Utah, where I taught ESS-handicap high school students and coached the middle school boys’ basketball team.
As an active tribal member, voter, educator and parent of the Oljato—Monument Valley, Utah/Arizona, area, I’ve listened to the voices of concerned parents and colleagues
I came to a realization that change is needed and I can make that difference!
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” ~Nelson Mandela~
As a personal and professional mission statement;
“All children have the successes to learn with parents implying “reaching for those stars “my child”.” That builds creativity, which leads to an ability to remember and comprehend.”
In the San Juan Record on August 13, 2014, they quoted the following from County Clerk Norman Johnson “Nimrod” “is not a Utah resident.” “He plans to deny her a seat if she is elected” “I don’t think the candidate can comply with the Utah Residency Law.”
I have legal documentation that supports my Utah residency. I encourage Mr. Johnson to honor and respect a fair campaigning practice. My primary or principal place of residence is Train Rock, Utah.
In my campaigning, I feel that we need to eliminate views of segregation due to boundaries and culture. In history, where limitations are established, the children are the ones who suffer.
I remember as a child limitations were established in our boarding schools. From that, the Utah Navajo language was lost. But today I am a bilingual Navajo speaker and a survivor.
“Where there is no struggle, there is no strength.” ~Oprah Winfrey~
As a potential “elected” school board official, I would like to talk about curriculum and standards; and help build bridges of understanding and acceptances for ESL students.
I also want to encourage more diverse education. Your heritage is nothing to be ashamed of. We have talented students; that need to praised, supported and proud of.
Please show your support and Vote.
Thank you.
It would be my honor to represent the San Juan County School Board District #5.
