Health District seeks new leadership

The San Juan Health Service District is seeking a new Chief Executive Officer.
The district has been under the direction of interim CEO Laurie Schafer since the December, 2013 dismissal of previous CEO Phil Lowe. Since that time, Chief Financial Officer Lyman Duncan was also dismissed.
Over the same timeframe, three members of the medical staff left the district and the surgeon lost his licensure.
Board members state that the district has worked through a financial crisis and has recruited several new employees.
The San Juan Health Service District operates San Juan Hospital in Monticello, and clinics in Monticello and Blanding.
Details were discussed at the September 16 meeting of the health service board. At a work meeting earlier in the day, the board created a new administrative structure for the district, headed by a CEO.
October 31 is the deadline for accepting applications. Board members Doug Allen, Burton Black and Guy Denton will review the administrative applications.
