Assistant Coach Brian Taylor: “Makenna Peterson proved this season that heart and determination can overcome any obstacle. When a broken collarbone threatened to sideline her early in the year,  Makenna refused to let it slow her down. She showed up to practice shooting left-handed, determined to keep working on her game and stay connected to her teammates. That kind of grit set the tone for everyone around her.
“One of the team’s leading scorers and a standout defender, Makenna brought an infectious energy to every practice and every game. She was always smiling, always finding the positive, and always pushing herself with the intensity and focus that showed her teammates what dedication looks like. She also took the younger players under her wing, helping them grow their confidence and their love for the game.
“Makenna is not only an athlete; she is also well-rounded in life. She is a Sterling Scholar runner up and excels in schooling. She is the National Honer Society President. She is a youth leader in her church, working on a youth council to create church youth activities that serve the community and the individuals. Makenna is an inspiration and was a pleasure to coach.”
