Crowds expected to gather for Easter weekend events
Tourists, visitors and worshippers will crowd the canyon country this week for the annual Easter weekend events.
The massive Easter Jeep Safari, which is headquartered in Moab but spills into San Juan County, annually draws thousands of visitors from around the world.
The San Juan County Sheriffs office and other law enforcement agencies anticipate a busy weekend policing the formal and informal events that acompany the annual safari.
In additional to refugees from the cities and the cold, many local residents will mark the Easter season with worship services.
A special Easter musical program, I Stand All Amazed, will be presented by a 30-member community choir in Monticello on Easter Sunday, April 12. The free program begins at 7 p.m. at the North LDS Chapel, 347 North 200 West.
I Stand All Amazed features the music of Sally DeFord. It is under the direction of Cindy Burtenshaw and accompanied by Lorelei Andrews.
Instrumentalists are Sue Anderson and Sylvia DeMille and the program will include solos by Alison Montgomery, Kayli Rogers, Lynda Boyle, Carol Martin, Heather Adame, Derryl Jack, Greg Montgomery, Reed Chapman and Cindi Holyoak.

The San Juan Community Church will host a series of events this week in anticipation of Easter. They invite all to join.
Programs on Wednesday, April 8 and Thursday, April 9 will feature an Easter guest speaker and special music. They begin at 7 p.m.
The program on Wednesday will feature Jerry Ward and songs by Debra McClellan with Rhonda Martin and by Alida Arnegard.
The program on Thursday will feature Pastor David Arnegard. Debra McClellan to share her heart in word and song. The Worship Team will be led by Debra McClellan, Rhonda Martin, Adina Free and Alida Arnegard.
On Friday, April 10 at 7 p.m., a concert will be presented by the Mid Valley Quartet from Basalt, Colorado.
Refreshments and fellowship will follow each night.
A special sunrise service will be held on Easter morning, Sunday, April 12. Beginning at 7 a.m., the program will include a solo by Alida Arnegard. The service will be followed by an Easter Egg hunt (with prizes) and breakfast.
