by Tad Barton
The San Juan cross county teams finished up the season at the UHSAA State Cross Country race held at Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City on Wednesday October 19.
The entire girls team qualified for the race and represented San Juan well, taking fifth place out of 11 teams from the 2A ranks.
The Lady Broncos were led by freshman Rachel Barton, who placed 14th with a time of 20:36.9, just 2:38 behind the first place runner.
Alexsis James, with a time of 20:48.8; Nizhoni Warren (22:06.6); Jessica Walker (22:26.1); and Celeste Hillhouse (22:53.9); round out the scoring runners for San Juan.
Freshmen Jaylyn Swenson (23:53.5) and Riana James (30:24.8) also completed the race for the Broncos.
While the boys cross country team didn’t qualify for the 2A State Championship race, they were still represented well by three runners.
Senior Thomas Hook, freshman Kade Francom and senior Garrett Chamberlain all competed in the race.
Hook was the first runner to cross the finish line for the Broncos with a time of 17:44.2, which is good enough for 20th overall.
Francom completed the race in 18:15.9, and Chamberlain finished with a time of 18:53.1.
Congratulations to the Bronco cross country teams on another great season.
