Changes in local schools

There will be changes in the administration of eight of the twelve schools in the San Juan School District, in addition to changes in the district office. A series of changes were announced on June 20 by Superintendent Doug Wright.
Many of the changes were triggered by the unexpected resignation of the district’s supervisor of elementary schools. Lance Hatch resigned after one year as the elementary school supervisor in order to accept a position as a principal in the Uintah School District. In previous years, he had served as principal at Monticello Elementary School.
Ron Nielson, who has been serving as the supervisor of secondary schools, will return to the elementary supervisor position he held when he came to the district office.
Chas DeWitt, currently principal at Albert R. Lyman Middle School (ARL), will come to the district office as the supervisor of secondary schools.
Kim Bailey, who was selected earlier this spring to serve as principal at Blanding Elementary School, will instead become the principal at ARL. He has been the assistant principal at ARL for the past three years. The new assistant principal at ARL will be Bill Sivert.
Mark Burge, currently the principal at Montezuma Creek Elementary School, will transfer to Blanding Elementary to serve as principal.
Boyd Silversmith, who earlier this year transferred to Whitehorse High from Monument Valley High as assistant principal, will stay in the Montezuma Creek community, but will serve as principal at Montezuma Creek Elementary.
Kim Schafer will step in to fill the role of assistant principal at Whitehorse High school.
The new assistant principal at Monument Valley High School is Connie Williams, while Lewis Whitaker is the new assistant principal at Monticello High School.
Julie Holt has been named the new principal at Monticello Elementary School, while Cheryl Soderstrom is the new principal at Tsebii’niszsgai Elementary School at Monument Valley.
