Cal Dean Black

Candidate for San Juan County Sheriff
I was born and raised in San Juan County and believe there is no greater place to raise a family. That is why my wife and I chose to raise our 8 children here. I have made Law Enforcement my career for the past 27 years. I was able to gain valuable experience while working for Provo City Police department for 7 ½ years. While there, I served as a Jailer before promoting to Patrol Officer and later Advanced Officer. I served on the SWAT team and Major Accident Investigation Team. I was chosen to help start a new Community Oriented Policing Team. I worked with community leaders and neighborhood watch leaders to identify and resolve problems in the community.
I was then given the opportunity to return to San Juan County. I worked for Blanding City PD for 14 years. With Blanding City I became a DARE Instructor and taught DARE for 12 years. I was promoted to Patrol Sergeant. After 14 years with Blanding City, I transferred to the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office where I have served for the past 5+ years. I have served on the Major Crimes Task Force and was awarded Investigator of the year in 2014. I am an investigator for the Office of the Medical Examiner. The past 4 years I have served as the Search and Rescue Commander. Prior to my career in law Enforcement, I was a project foreman with an asbestos removal company where I supervised a work crew. I have owned and operated my own catering business for the past 10 years. I am financially responsible and debt free in my personal life and business. I believe in working within a budget.
If elected I commit to: uphold the Constitution of the United States, work with community leaders and members to provide a safe environment for everyone, improve law enforcement on the Navajo Reservation, enforce laws fairly and equally, provide quality training for officers, continue to provide drug and alcohol prevention programs for our youth and work with school administrators to provide safe schools for our children.
I believe I have the training, leadership, personality and experience to be the next Sheriff of San Juan County.
I will LEAD with HONESTY, INTEGRITY and a COMMITMENT to keep San Juan County the greatest place to live and raise our families. I appreciate your support and vote on June 26.
