The Lady Buckaroo volleyball team completed another successful week, going 6-1 and dominating at the Parowan Tournament.  
The Ladies started the week off with a three game sweep of the Green River Pirates, 25-23, 25-15, 25-16.  
Then the girls made the long trip to Parowan where they shut out Parowan, 25-20, 25-20, Manila 25-12, 25-16, American Leadership twice, 25-20, 25-20 and 25-18, 25-21 and Altamont 25-11, 25-14.  
Their only loss on the weekend was a return match against Manila, where the Ladies lost 26-24 and 25-14, leaving the Bucks with a 9-3 record on the year and ranked number three in 1A behind St. Joes and Rich.
Football news
The Buckaroo football team fell to 1-3 overall after a 35-28 loss to the Kanab Cowboys.  
The Cowboys dropped down from 2A ranks to 1A this year.  Monticello started fast however, when an alert Shane Christensen pounced on a Kanab fumble on the first offensive play of the game at the Kanab 35 yard line.  
The Bucks quickly moved down the field and scored in six plays behind junior Cole Eldredge, who blasted his way to 22 yards in two plays, including the 13-yard TD burst up the middle.  
After Austin Maloy added the extra point, the Bucks led 7-0 less than two minutes into the game.
Kanab got right back into the game with an 80-yard return on the kickoff, which they quickly turned to a TD on a 20-yard touchdown pass.  
Kanab kept the pressure on the Bucks defensively and then scored on their next two possessions offensively to take a 21-7 lead.  
First, they scored on a double pass that went 31 yards and then on an 89-yard scamper by the Cowboy quarterback.
Austin Maloy got the Bucks going again with a 44-yard carry to the Kanab four yard line and then added the touchdown from there and it was 21-14.  After a Kanab fumble, the Bucks scored again on a six yard TD run by Maloy.  The try for two failed and Kanab stayed ahead, 21-20.
Officials played a big part in the game, particularly affecting Kanab before halftime.  
The yellow flags were flying with both teams earning six penalites in the first half. One play raised the ire of the Cowboy faithful just before half.  
With the ball on their own five, the Bucks fumbled the ball in the endzone.  QB McKade Maloy picked up the ball and was immediately smothered by the Kanab defense.  
After a moment’s hesitation and the Kanab faithfull signaling touchdown, the referees also made the touchdown sign.  
But soon the officials were huddling and before you knew it, the touchdown was taken off the board and Monticello had the ball on the ten-yard line.  
Inadvertent whistle was the call, though it wasn’t clear how the Bucks ended up with the ball on the 10-yard line, instead of the five, where the play began.
More flags in the second half slowed both offenses down, but Kanab was able to add two more touchdowns to get their 14th win over the Bucks against just two Buckaroos wins over Kanab.  
Late in the fourth quarter, the Bucks mounted an 80 yard drive for a TD that included a 37-yard fake punt pass from Austin Maloy to Parker Lewis and a one-yard TD run by Hunter Bowring, playing in place of an injured Austin Wilcox.
Unofficially, Bowring picked up 78 yards rushing on 17 carries, Austin Maloy had 120 yards on 19 carries and Cole Eldredge had 93 yards on 12 carries.  
The Bucks rushed for 310 yards on the game, but couldn’t get the passing game going, completing only four of 22 passes for 68 yards.  The two teams meet again in Kanab the last week of the season.
Cross country
The Buckaroo harriers ran all the way to Provo for the annual 2013 BYU Autumn Classic, a 27-team affair with hundreds of runners.  
The boys team for coach Jeff Hunt placed 18th, the only 1A school and beating all the 2A schools except for North Summit.  
Easton Nielson was the first Buckaroo runner, finishing in 17:45 to take 45th out of 206 runners.  
Tyler Bird was 89th, Jens Brewer 103rd, and Sheldon Black 106th to round out the Buckaroo scorers.  Tanner Eardley (126) and Everett Hatch (139) also ran for Monticello.
The Lady Buckaroo runners were led by junior Bailey Goodwine, who placed 77 out of 175 runners.  Freshman Kendall Harris was 141st, and juniors Cambria Welch and Ashley Hoggard were 164th and 165th.
