Bronco win streak now 26 in a row

With a 27-7 win over Enterprise, 6-0 San Juan now has won 26 games in a row, the third longest in state history.  The Broncos matched Bingham’s 26-game streak with the victory at Enterprise.  
According to Felt’s Facts, San Juan haven’t lost to a Utah opponent since their final game in 2008, to Manti.   Since then, it has been stifling defense and opportunistic offense that has propelled the Broncos to victory.   
The victory over the Wolves caused some to reflect on the Cougars of BYU, who fumbled six times in an ugly loss to Utah last week, as the Broncos coughed up the ball at least five times.  However, the vaunted Bronco defense kept the Wolves out of the endzone until late in the third quarter.  
The Broncos used the pass and the run to great effectiveness when they needed, as QB Barkley Christensen tossed three touchdown passes of 45, 87 and 20 yards. A 10 yard run closed the Bronco scoring.
Christensen leads 2A  in passing touchdowns, with 12 on the year and in yards per game, with 154.  Logan Meyer has caught four of those TD passes.  The Broncos continue to lead 2A in points scored and second in points allowed.  The Broncos average 38 points a game and only give up 6.  
Beaver, who travel to Blanding in two weeks, are riding a five game winning streak and have tossed three shutouts in a row on their opponents to be the stingiest team in the state at five points per game.  
Meyer is second in 2A with his foot, scoring 25 points this year on two field goals and 19 extra points.  Bronco lineman Bogh Bayles leads 2A in sacks, with seven while Bobby Bowring is second in interceptions, with two.  The Broncos host winless South Sevier this week in Blanding.
The Buckaroos rushed their way to a 45-0 first quarter lead and never looked back on their way to a 73-8 pounding of Whitehorse.  The Bucks scored early and often in the easy win.  The win leaves the Bucks riding a five game winning streak since losing the opener to 5-1 Carbon.
The Bucks have moved steadily up in the rankings to the number two spot behind the undefeated Duchesne Eagles.  
The Bucks host 1-4 Altamont this week in a homecoming matchup and then travel to 5-1 Diamond Ranch and Duchesne on consecutive weeks.  
The Bucks sport two runners in the top five in 1A rushing with the Austins, Wilcox and Maloy, rushing for 95 and 88 yards per game.  They might have much more but have given up their running back spots to teammates in a couple of the Buckaroo routes early in the second half.  
Both sophomores are averaging nearly seven yards per carry.  Wilcox leads 1A in TDs with 10 on the season thus far. Maloy has scored five rushing TDs and two via the pass.
Defensively, Brian Robinson leads 1A in interceptions with four.  Jonah Cafferty is second in kicking with 16 points on 13 extra points and one field goal.  The Bucks lead 1A in scoring at 42 points per game and are second in defense, allowing a mere 15 points per game.
With the Broncos and Buckaroos both playing well in football, one wonders how a game between the two might go this year.  The rivalry has been mostly lopsided in recent years and the teams opted not to play this year for the first time many years.  
So the bragging rights in football head to head need to go the Monticello’s JV at this point, after a 38-6 win over the Bronco JV a couple of weeks ago.  
In that game, Buckaroo freshman Kyler LaRose, had a break out performance, catching two TD passes, and helping the Buckaroo defense stifle the Broncos.  
Late in the game, LaRose caught a short pass from Buck QB Hunter Bowring and turned it into a nearly 90 yard touchdown.  Unfortunately, but maybe fortuitously, the exhilarating 90 yard play turned out to be LaRose’s last as a Buckaroo football player.  
Suffering a stinger in the game, LaRose began to feel tingling in his extremities and the next day, was still feeling pain.  Subsequent doctor’s checkups, MRIs and other procedures revealed a spinal chord passageway that was much smaller than normal, leading to the possibility of a paralyzing injury.  
So LaRose’s football career is over, but not without making a great memory first.  See him on the sidelines at Buckaroo games, however, helping with sideline duties.
Volleyball
The Buckaroo gals from Monticello defeated the Green River Pirates to run their record to 17-2. They haven’t lost a game since August 21, when they beat Panguitch two games to one.
The Lady Broncos were upset in Richfield on Friday night by the Wildcats, 3-1. The first two games were won fairly handily by the Wildcats, 25-16, 25-15, but the Ladies from Blanding came back to win the third game 25-22 and pushed the Wildcats nearly to a fifth game before falling 25-23 in the fourth game.   
The next night the 16-7 Broncos bounced back with a 3-1 win over the South Sevier Rams, 25-13, 25-22, 20-25, 25-15.
