Artisan Jewelers opens doors for business

A local couple, obviously excited and obviously very much in love, looked at various design options for their engagement and wedding bands. It used to be that this couple would have to travel some distance to choose their rings, but not any more. Artisan Jewelers in Monticello has opened its doors.
Artisan Jewelers, located at 181 South Main in Monticello, owned and operated by returned local Tyler Hall, is different than the a typical jewelry store. Hall is no ordinary jeweler.
“Customers can order pre-made or mass produced rings, but Artisan Jewelers specializes in made-to-order rings,” said Hall.
Unique customer ring design is the business goal outlined by Hall and is echoed in his website, uniqueengagementring.com.
“On our website we have a full selection of over 200 rings but if our customer wants to modify a ring, we discuss their desires and I send them a rendering.” Hall said. “I have a turn around time for a unique ring of two to two and a half weeks, start to finish.”
It is this versatility that is also a driving force behind Artisan Jewelers.
Artisan Jewelers offers more than just rings. “We offer Edwardian and Art Deco jewelry,” Hall said, “but we also offer contemporary and antique watches, watch repair, gemstones, lapidary or gem stone and rock cutting.”
With the connections Hall has made all over the United States, he has even provided his customers with such unique items as music and pill boxes.
“But our products are not just high end; I want everybody to feel comfortable in coming to us for all their jewelry needs,” he said.
Artisan Jewelers is already planning on expanding as Hall hopes to move his custom design manufacturing operation to Monticello.
“We are already training personnel,” Hall said. “When we obtain our equipment, we will produce everything in-house which will reduce our turn around time to only three days and at a price that competes with generic mass produced rings.”
Tyler Hall grew up in Monticello where, according to his mother, he has always been interested in gemology.
“I am a rock hound above all else,” Hall confirms.
He had his first rock tumbler at age six and first rock saw at twelve. According to his mother, when the family would go four-wheeling, Hall was always looking for, and bringing home, rocks.
After graduating from Monticello High School in 2002, Hall went on to obtain a B.S. in Management from Southern Utah University, graduating in 2005 before entering the work force.
Hall worked, but his passion for rocks stayed with him. This passion explains why he pursued the coveted qualification of Graduate Gemologist from the Gemology Institute of American. With this certification under his belt, Hall built his reputation in the industry by working as an appraiser with McArthur Jewelers in St. George before opening his own jewelry store.
Hall opened Design Her Ring in St. George and with targeted marketing and quality customer service, it quickly became the local favorite for engagement rings with students from Dixie State University.
This success also led Design Her Ring to become the sole sponsor of the annual Dixie State University’s Rock Solid Tradition event.
As successful as Design Her Ring was in St. George, something was missing. Hall and his wife of eleven years, Loy Retta Crane Hall, who also grew up in Monticello, always wanted to return and raise their five children in the atmosphere of Monticello. So after closing Design Her Ring, the family moved to Monticello.
But there is even more to the reason for their return to Monticello, as Hall explained, “I wanted to be part of building Monticello,” Hall said. “I want to inspire investment in Monticello and show that new businesses can be successful here. Anybody can do it, and they can do it here.”
