“Will Rogers Follies” on the way

Will Rogers is coming! How can that be? San Juan High School Drama Department, Music Department, and San Juan Royals are joining with the Edge of the Seaters Theater Company to bring to you the heartwarming, family centered musical, “Will Rogers Follies.”
Organizers are looking for this to be a great collaboration between community and school. Here is an excellent chance for a large number of high school students and community members to work together, learn from each other, collaborate and build some binding ties.
Auditions for this great event will be held on two dates, August 31 at 7 p.m. at the San Juan High School Auditorium as well as September 2 at 7 p.m. at the San Juan High School Auditorium. If auditioning for a speaking part, please prepare a short, two-minute monologue, reading, or poem of some type. Most of the speaking parts require singing as well. Please prepare a vocal number which shows your full singing range. Bring your own accompanist or CD; we will have a player available.
Pulling off a successful musical requires more than actors; so if singing, dancing and acting are not in your comfort zone; come to our auditions to sign up to help the myriad behind the scenes needs. Principal parts include male quartet, vibrant young Zeigfield Follies star, 20-35 year old woman, young pilot, announcer (unseen), Florenz Zeigfield (unseen), 5- 6 year old male child, female children ages 10 – 14, male 50-60 years old, female young women 15 – 20 years old, chorus – MANY voices are needed, young men willing to sing and dance, stage manager (who makes an appearance on stage), stage crew (they also appear).
Support members include technical crew, i.e. lighting, sound, special effects, and media. They will need help with advertising, costuming, and set (construction, woodworking, and building). A small orchestra is needed including saxophone, flute, piccolo, clarinet, bassoon, synthesizer, and drums.
This is a wonderful story depicting the bigger than life personality of a now forgotten American icon. Please come and be part of this spectacular event.
Debbie Christiansen and Ann Jennings (SJH drama teacher) will co-direct the event. Contact them at dchristiansen@sanjuanschools.org, ajennings@sanjuanschools.org; or by phone 435-678-3340.
