“Giants in San Juan” needs help

The San Juan Record has featured 14 giants so far in our series on San Juan’s great leaders and characters. You may read these features by going here.

Feedback has been positive, and we hope to continue the project through the coming year.

We have scoured the libraries and old copies of the San Juan Record for personal histories and books about people from this area.

The best information, resulting in the best articles, has come from families whose ancestors already have written histories, or who have a family member willing to write the information down for us.

If you have a history of one of your ancestors, and would allow writer Buckley Jensen to borrow it, it will be appreciated and returned to you as soon as a feature can be produced.

The San Juan Record ran a survey prior to the start of the series, asking a cross-section of people in the County to suggest individuals who could be featured.

The above list is by no means exhaustive. If you have an ancestor or loved one whom you think would be a good candidate, we will give your suggestion every consideration.

In addition to the dates and accomplishments of their lives, we look for interesting stories and lessons from their experience, their humor, and the example their legacy leaves us in the 21st Century.

The requirements for consideration in this series are: l.) Must be deceased. 2.) Must have made a major contribution to the building up of San Juan County.

Place materials in a large sealed envelope, with the name of the person to be considered written on the front, and the address where the information should be returned.

It would also be helpful to highlight what you feel are the most important things in the material you submit. Remember, everything you submit must be condensed into a single SJR page by the writer of the article. We also need at least one picture of your candidate. Thanks.
