The lake is presently being drained to repair an outlet structure. Drainage will result in the loss and waste of many fish. The Division of Wildlife Resources hopes that fishermen can get out and harvest as many fish as possible to reduce the waste.
Oowah Lake has been recently stocked and has a full compliment of trout, says Paul Birdsey, regional fisheries manager. The process of emptying the lake has already begun. Once repairs are complete, it is anticipated that the lake will not fill completely until 2011.
