Both student athletes were nominated by the Utah Coaches Association to compete in the event as they were both ranked third in their particular events in Utah.
This was the second year in a row to compete in the meet for Macee, who competed in the 3200, an event in which she is the three time state champion in Utah.
And she learned from last year’s Classic, when she ran in a pack with a horde of outstanding runners (athletes from nine states participate in the invitation-only meet) and was boxed in a little and finished sixth.
This year Macee got out front from the start and led the race throughout, only to get outsprinted at the end to finish an outstanding third.
Devin competed in the javelin, an event he won at the Utah State track meet last month, and also tried his luck in the hammer throw, an event in which he has never before participated. Congratulations to these two small school athletes.
