U.S. Congress
Republican party

Growing up in Utah, my family traveled to southeastern Utah for family vacations where we enjoyed multi-use - motorcycling, hiking, boating, and camping. I’ve hunted in San Juan County.

I, like most Utahns, are true environmentalists because we understand that stewardship is not roping off areas but managing the beneficial use for everyone – especially those who live here. .

The Bear Ears relates to my legislative plan. The Antiquities Act was never to meant to tie up 1.3 million acres, especially without input from those most affected.

It was intended to protect 50 acres, but never to be used as a political weapon or trophy.

Bear Ears must be rescinded.

Understanding public lands is one of my strengths. In 2009, I was in the Uinta Basin when the Under-secretary of the Interior visited right after President Obama pulled the 77 oil/gas leases and saw the harm the federal government caused.

I was one of the first Wasatch Front lawmakers to fully understand what was happening to rural Utah. I gave out dozens of copies of Bill Redd’s book.

On Utah’s Capitol Hill, my bill HB143 helped reignite the public lands battle, and provided a way for Utahns to fight federal overreach.

For far too long, we have strayed for the original intent of the U.S. Constitution. Congress has abdicated to the Executive Branch.

Rulemaking authority must be taken back from the EPA and the BLM.so lawmakers can no longer say, “Sorry, I can’t do anything about that.”

Because I’m not new to the issues of rural Utah, I have been endorsed by San Juan Commissioners Bruce Adams and Phil Lyman, as well as Utah State Rep. Mike Noel. Rural issues are Utah issues.

I will continue our fight in Washington.
