Park Guymon passed away on May 19, 2016 at the George W. Whalen Veteran’s Home in Ogden, UT.
He was born to Ervin Richard and Elizabeth (Beth) Mary Park Guymon in Cortez, CO.
He married his sweetheart, Geraldine (Geri) Leishman on March 15, 1956 in the Logan Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
He graduated from San Juan High School in Blanding, UT. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture in 1956 and a combined Masters and Doctorate in Chemistry in 1964 from Utah State University. Park obtained seven patents in oil recovery from Vernal Tar Sands and the Great Salt Lake. He researched and developed high grade asphalt.
Park served in the U. S. Army as a 2nd Lt and a 1st Lt with the Nike Ajax Missile Battalion, and as a Captain in the Army Reserves.
Park had many hobbies including horse racing with registered quarter horses, and cattle ranching.
Park was a well loved and respected Chemistry Professor at Weber State University for 43 years.
He also was Analytical Chemist for El Paso Natural Gas Co. He was a committed researcher for oil research in Utah for many years.
He was a dedicated and faithful member of the LDS Church and served in many positions including the Young Men’s Organization, Scouting, Stake Missionary, Service Missionary on Temple Square for eight years, Bishop’s Counselor in the Single Adults Ward at Weber State University, and as Bishop of the Grandview and 61st Wards in Ogden Utah.
Park was a mentor to thousands of Science Fair youth for seven years and was the director for the Junior Academy and Senior Regional Fairs.
Park was helpful to many students in obtaining their degrees in Dentistry, Chemistry and Medical studies. He was always ready and willing to make himself available to all who needed him.
He also enjoyed giving many chemistry magic shows to the children in Weber County schools. He always felt that his greatest professional achievement was the students he helped.
Park will be sorely missed by many former students, colleagues, friends, neighbors, Ward members and a loving large family who reveres him. He was a patient, kind and loving Father and husband.
Park is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Richard Duane Guymon. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Geri, and by his children Dianna (Rick) Beagley of Honeyville, UT, Michael (Carol) Guymon of Ogden, UT, Gordon (Kathrine) Guymon of Clinton, UT, Kevin (Julie) Guymon of Evanston, WY and Allan (Cheryl) Guymon of Iowa City, IA, also 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Mt. Ogden Rehabilitation and the George E. Wahlen Veteran’s Home’s caring staffs, including Bristol Hospice with too many Angels to mention.
All services will be at the Burch Creek Stake Seventh Ward building at 3680 Eccles in Ogden.
There will be a viewing on Friday, May 27 from 6-8 p.m. On Saturday, May 28 the viewing will be from 8:30-9:15 a.m. with the funeral services beginning at 9:30 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will be at Evergreen Memorial Park.
