This week, the Monticello Buckaroo Wrestlers put a big 62-15 win in the books at a home dual with Dolores and travelled to their toughest tournament of the year, the Rockwell Rumble in Orem.

Against Dolores, Buckaroos won five of eight matches.  Drew Baird had the first win with a quick ankle pick on the whistle and a win by fall in only :39 seconds.

Shandon Bradford followed with a dominating 12-0 win.  McKayd LaRose scored a big win, finishing on top 11-2. Brandon Musselman earned a 9-1 win and Roque DeAnda took quick control and earned a win by fall in 1:04.  Also wrestling were Eric Anderson, Brandin Clark and Dailyn Warren, who were defeated on the night.

The Rockwell Rumble had the team split between two locations as half attended the varsity tournament and half attended the JV tourney.  The nine varsity Buckaroos finished 29th of 67 teams and are the only 1A school in the top 30.

Medal winners for the Bucks are Austin Wilcox and Cole Eldredge, who both earned fifth place finishes after two days of tough competition.

Both won in the first two rounds but a loss in the next round sent them to the consolation bracket and a tough road to the medal round.

Both wrestlers came back strong, winning five of six matches, including the final match. Wilcox won three by fall and one in an exciting overtime match. Eldredge had a 17-7 win, and two falls.

Shandon Bradford was 5-2 with all five wins by fall. Hunter Bowring finished 3-2 with one fall.

Both wrestlers were beat out of the tournament in their last match before the medal round.

Dailyn Warren, Brandon Musselman and Jake Giles all earned a win at the tournament. Also wrestling for the Buckaroos were Curtis Baird and Eric Anderson.

In the Rumble second chance tournament, Brandon Musselman placed second, earning four wins with two by fall and one technical fall. Musselman lost a close 2-1 match in the final against a competitor from Washington.

In the JV Rumble Tournament, Chance Weahkee led the Buckaroos, earning a championship in his weight class. Chance won two matches by major decision and two by fall before an exciting 5-3 win in the final.

Also medaling in the tournament is McKayd Larose, who won eight matches with three by fall on his way to a 7-2 win in the consolation finals.

Also wrestling for the Bucks in the JV Tournament were Dustin Christensen with three wins, Parker Knudsen with two, Drew Baird, Masen Johnsen, and Alma Beh with one win, and Jose Santana, Brandin Clark, Roque DeAnda, Yhoni DelaFuenta, and Clayton Westcott.

The dual this week was cancelled by Dove Creek.
