This could very well be the theme song for Dr. Lance Allen, the newest family practice physician for San Juan Health Services. Lance and his wife have rural roots, Lance having been raised in Piute, UT and Lori in Alaska. Their goal as a family is to put down permanent roots in a beautiful rural community steeped with culture, tradition, and outdoor opportunities.
“The people in San Juan County have always been such warm, welcoming, solid people,” said Dr. Allen. He is no stranger to the county by any means. Lance is the brother of Cassie Moon and Luke Allen, giving him ample opportunities to become acquainted with the life San Juan County offers to all.
A great affinity for math and science led Dr. Allen to initially seek a degree in environmental engineering. He found the work, although interesting, unfulfilling. “It was just not a good fit for me. I am a people person and enjoy making a difference in people’s lives. I just needed to make a change,” he said.
With family in tow, they moved to Las Vegas, NV where he attended medical school at Touro University. Dr. Allen is just completing his residency in Warren, OH. After a one- year residency in ER, he felt the long term connection to people’s lives tugging at him once more and changed his focus to family practice.
“I look forward to bringing babies into the world, caring for their siblings, and seeing that their grandparents are cared for with dignity and respect,” said Allen. “
Families are important to me and I want to be a part of the health care of families. It was an easy decision to come and be part of San Juan Health Services. I am so impressed with the hospital, administration and staff.”
His wife Lori finds the beauties of this area, coupled with the kindness and generosity she has seen, an inspiring back drop for her composing and singing talents.
Their six children, Shylee, Lance, Hunter, Trapper, Fisher, and Rider, look forward to being closer to grandparents and cousins, enjoying the great outdoors and putting roots down in San Juan.
Dr. Allen finishes his residency this month with Dr. Curtis Black and begins seeing patients in Blanding, Monticello and Dove Creek on September 1.
