Six Raiders advance to state

The Whitehorse Raiders qualified six wrestlers for the 1A state tournament this weekend. The Raiders were led at the 1A Southern Regional tournament by a second place finish at 130 pounds by Corelton Benn. Benn defeated the top seed in an exciting semifinal match before falling in the championship match to Clay Fullmer of Piute.

Terrill Whitehorse also wrestled in the championship match at 171 pounds. He finished second after falling to Hagan Ekker of Wayne.

Other Raider wrestlers who advance to the state tournament include Delbert Tsosie, third at 185 pounds; Colton Lee, third at 215 pounds; Cameron Phillips, third at 285 pounds; and Shawn Carter, fourth at 285 pounds.

Tyrone Miller, Veranno Silas and James Lee each finished in fifth place and will compete at the state tournament if higher-seeded wrestlers are unable to compete.

Other Whitehorse wrestlers who participated in the regional tournament include Carma Martine, Zack Jones and O’Bryan Benally.
