Nearly 30 race in beautiful conditions in inaugural Newspapers Rock! 10K race
Nearly 30 runners enjoyed the inaugural Newspapers Rock 10K run down Indian Creek canyon on October 13. Sponsored by the San Juan Record, the race wound its way through beautiful fall foliage and towering redrock cliffs from Newspaper Rock to the Dugout Ranch.
Overall winner in the race is Matthew Larson of Monticello, who finished the 6.2 mile course in 45:09. Finishing second and third overall are youth racers David Boyle and Ryan Doel.
The second and third place adult males are Kevin Webb and Von Black, who were separated by just one second after 10,000 meters of racing.
The top female finisher is Jamie Carling of Monticello, followed by Abigail Larson, Cathy Hatch, Trisdan Fausett and Haley Burton.
The top (and only) team to complete the race includes Gary Torres and Jed Carling.
Other racers to complete the course in less than one hour are Vernon Hatch, Trent Schafer, Greg Martin and Scott Burton.
Melissa Shakespeare was the top finisher in the San Juan Record office race, followed by an exhausted Bill Boyle.
Other racers include Scott Shakespeare, Hannah Boyle, Laurie Schafer, Suzanne Duke, Katy Nebeker, Jenna LaRose, Rick Earl, Jim Rhoades, Lynda Boyle, Katie Boyle, Annette Boyle and Doug Boyle.
Future races will be run the second Saturday in October.
