Woman killed in rock fall during camping trip

A 19-year-old woman was killed in San Juan County on May 7 when a rock she was sitting on broke away and fell.

Christina Elizabeth Allen, of San Luis Obispo, CA died as a result of her injuries at the Kane Creek camping area in northern San Juan County.

According to San Juan County Sheriff Rick Eldredge, Allen was camping with her family when she climbed cliffs adjacent to the camp and sat on a large sandstone rock to enjoy the view. Several rocks fell, along with Allen. She received severe internal and external injuries to her abdomen and pelvis. She died from her injuries at the scene of the accident.

Emergency crews responded from San Juan County and the Grand County Search and Rescue.
