Dr. Wright retires after spending nearly 50 years of his life as a student, a teacher, and an administrator in the San Juan School District. He has been the superintendent of the sprawling district for 14 years.
School officials outlined the large number of noteworthy efforts that Dr. Wright has been involved in, including the education of thousands of students, the employment of hundreds of teachers and staff, the construction of new schools, and the implementation of a capital project plan to remodel existing schools.
With an annual operating budget of nearly $40 million, the education of children represents the largest effort undertaken in San Juan County.
The school district has been on solid legal ground under Dr. Wright after experiencing several decades of legal challenges.
