October 18, 1931 ~ October 27, 2016

Richard Jerome Guthrie (Jerry) passed away on October 27, 2016 in Grand Junction, CO. Jerry was born October 18, 1931 in Tulsa Oklahoma to Lester J and Lela Wineford Guthrie.

After graduation from high school in California, Jerry served in the United States Military (Air Force).  Jerry was known as a hard worker and showed this throughout his life.

He worked trapping in the White Mountains of Arizona, at Boeing until he burnt his lungs in an accident, at Peerless Pumps, and shoeing horses.

Jerry and his wife Ruth moved to Monticello to retire.  He didn’t stay retired for long. While here in Monticello he stayed busy shoeing horses, working at the sheriff’s office, working for the Forest Service and herding cows for local ranchers.

Jerry is preceded in death by his wife Ruth Syndey Hart Guthrie, who passed away in January of 2010.

Throughout his life, he became a skilled handyman.  He enjoyed fixing things and helping others. Jerry loved all kinds of animals and they loved him too.

Jerry touched the lives of many people.  These kind of men are few and hard to come by.  We are better people for knowing Jerry and being able to learn from him.

We were all blessed to have him in our lives.  He will truly be missed.

Card of thanks
The families of Scott and Katherine Cass and Gordon and Susan Reeve would like to thank all of those who helped with Jerry over the years. We know Jerry really appreciated all of the service the young men provided.
