Monticello is known for its surrounding beauty, calm summer climate and, of course, the Pioneer Day Celebration every July.

This year, the theme of “I Ride for the Brand” will honor the legacy of ranching in the area. The celebration this year will be held July 20 and 21.

The festivites begin Friday night with a sampling of the talent of local residents and their skills at the Pioneer Day Talent Show. Cash prizes will be given in Adult, Junior and Children catagories.

Following the Talent Show, VanLady Love will be performing LIVE in concert. Tickets are $5 in advance or $7 at the gate and are available at the Monticello City offices during regular business hours.

A fast pitch softball tournament also begins Friday evening. To register a team, call the Monticello City office at 435-587-2271.

Saturday begins with the Lions Club breakfast at the pavillion south of the LDS Stake Center beginning at 7:30 a.m. Also Saturday morning will be the Blue Mountiain Pioneer Days 5K Race and the Pioneer Days Kids Race. Registration will be at 6:30 a.m. at Loyds Lake. The Kids Race begins at 8:15 a.m. Registration is available online at For more information, call 435-220-0058 or email

To beat the heat, the parade will commence earlier this year at 9:30 a.m. After the parade, head down to the Veterans Memorial Park for vendor and food booths and free activities for children, including bounce houses and water games.

The Monticello City Pool will host children’s activities, including diving for cash and relay races, all with prizes.

The Big 4 Tractor Pull starts at 3:30 p.m. at the County Fairgrounds. The celebration ends with a fireworks display at dusk.
