The Monticello Parks and Beautification Xeriscape Award goes to Chuck and Peggy Humphreys (left). Their drought-friendly landscaping is a pleasure to view on 200 West. Peggy incorporates rabbit brush and purple asters as flowers in her garden. Most gardeners consider these a weed.

Jan and Grayson Redd tout the garden gnome in their yard this month (right). Jan’s adoration for flowers was spurred as a child. Jan said gardening is a process of experimentation, trial and error and building upon what one has learned from previous years. She urges those who want to start gardening to just go for it.
