A Monument Valley man has been charged with first degree criminal homicide for the death of his brother.

The body of Rojear Nelson, age 34, was found along Highway 163, near the turnoff to Lime Ridge between Bluff and Mexican Hat, at about 7 a.m. on October 30.

Nelson was found lying behind a vehicle on the side of the roadway. He had suffered multiple stab wounds to his abdomen and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rodale Nelson, age 34 and brother of the deceased, was found walking approximately one mile from the scene.

Nelson was detained for questioning and was charged with first degree criminal homicide, possession of a weapon by a restricted person, and intoxication.

A bail hearing was held on November 2 in Seventh District Court.

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with the Utah Department of Public Safety, investigated the case.
