John William Himmelberger loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather, passed away at 96 on Saturday, April 18, 2015.
Grandpa was born to Ora Guy Himmelberger and Neva Bushong on December 19, 1918 in Bellefontaine, OH.
After his mother died, his father married Carey Watson, who was a caring mother to him.
He continued his life of service to others at 17 when he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, where he met his loving wife Nora Hardy.
They were married April 1, 1938, and later sealed together for eternity on August 27, 1966 and had four children Philip, Keith, Dwight and Nancy.
He went on to serve proudly in the Air Force during World War II. After his military service their family ended up in Monticello, where Grandpa worked for Redd Motors for 43 years.
In his pursuit of community service, he also served as the fire chief, a 4-H Leader, a member of the Lion’s Club and as commander of the Jeep Patrol finding lost hikers. Grandpa helped all those in need around him. Grandma passed away July 31, 1986 after 48 years of marriage.
Grandpa then married Maxine Lyman on September 2, 1989. Grandpa spent his retirement years continuing to be active and helpful to others.
He is survived by his children Philip (Irene), and Keith (Janet); grandchildren Ronnie (Laurel), Cindy, Angela, Keith Guy (Kathryn), Gordon (Teresa), Jerry (Kim), Darrin (Merri Lee), Misha, Matthew (Jayne), Teri (Allen), and Brian (Kandi); 25 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Grandpa is preceded in death by his wife Nora, son Dwight, daughter Nancy, son in law Derrald Barrell, grandson in law Scott Smith, and second wife Maxine. He will be truly missed.

Private family services were held Wednesday, April 22, 2015. In lieu of flowers, please do something nice for someone in need in Grandpa’s honor.
