One-time San Juan County resident Gerald D. (Jerry) Dyer passed away suddenly Saturday, July 22, 1017 at his home in Grand Junction, CO.

Jerry was the general manager of Hall’s Crossing Marina from February, 1975 through September, 1977 under Lake Powell Ferry Service.  He was 86 years old.

Jerry was born in Wheatridge, CO and grew up in Lakewood.  He attended Lakewood High School, where he lettered in football, basketball, and track.

He graduated in 1949 with a football scholarship and entered the University of Colorado in Boulder.  A knee injury on the field forced Jerry to switch to ROTC.

He graduated with a bachelor’s degree and entered the United States Army as a second lieutenant in 1953, where he became a Master Aviator.  He flew fixed wing aircraft and helicopters.  Jerry loved his family as much as he loved flying and his country.

He served a tour in Vietnam from 1962 to 1963 and another from 1967 to 1968.  He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army in February, 1975, when he moved with his wife, Gailya (Gay), and youngest son, Tom, to Hall’s Crossing.  Tom remained in Blanding, marrying Janis Burnett.

Jerry was honorably interned at the Veteran’s Memorial in Grand Junction on Friday, July 28, 2017, which was his and Gay’s sixty-seventh wedding anniversary.

He is survived by his wife, Gay; brother Glenn Dyer of Golden, CO; sons Mark (Debbie) of Grand Junction, Jerry (Elaine) of San Jose, CA, and Tom (Janis) of Blanding; grandchildren Brandy, Susan, Terrillynn, Earl, Danielle, Ashleigh, Mark; and eight great-grandchildren.

He will be sorely missed.
