Ernest “Bill” Cleveland, age 85, of Mancos, CO and Monticello, UT and formerly Elmira, NY, passed away Monday, January 2, 2017.

He is predeceased by his wife, Bertha Cleveland.

Bill is survived by sons Dale E. Cleveland of Horse-heads, NY and Craig Cleveland of Browning, MT, as well as six other children.

A graveside service was held in Eastland, UT on Wednesday, January 11.

Bill was born in Elmira, NY. He had three brothers and one sister.

He left home early in his teen years and made his way west to work at various jobs. It was there that he fell in love with the West.

He joined the Army as soon as he could and fought in the Korean confilct. After leaving the army, he married for the first of five marriages and had two sons.

He left that marriage and headed west again to marry for his second, third and fourth times. He had three daughters and three additional sons by these marriages.

In the 1980’s, Bill decided to head back east temporarily where he met and married his fifth wife, Bertha. This marriage lasted the longest of any of his marriages.

In 1989, Bill and Bertha headed back west and fell in love with the Monticello, UT area. There Bill spent the best and most enjoyable years of his life.

Bill was involved in church and community events throughout his life, especially in the Monticello and Dove Creek areas.

He made many friends and established many lasting relationships. He will enjoy his final resting place in Eastland, where he can view the Abajos for eternity.
