Easter Services set at churches in San Juan

The Easter season means many things in San Juan County. In addition to local residents, there are a large number of visitors to the area, and they will be able to participate in Easter services at area churches.

Holy Week events began on Palm Sunday and will culminate on Easter.

A series of events are planned at the new St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monticello. On Holy Thursday, March 24, Mass will begin at 7:30 p.m. followed by Adoration. On Good Friday, March 25, the Solemn Celebration of the Lord’s Passion will begin at 6 p.m.

The Easter Sunday Mass, is March 27 at noon.

The First Baptist Church in Blanding will hold an Easter Sunday Pancake Breakfast at 9:30 a.m., followed by a special worship service at 11 a.m.

St. Christopher in Bluff has a Holy Eucharist at 7 p.m. on Thursday March 24, and a Good Friday Service at 5:30 p.m. on March 25.

An Easter Sunrise Service will begin at 6 a.m. on Sunday where the old footbridge used to be.

The regular Easter Service and Holy Eucharist will be held on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Big Church.

The San Juan Community Church in Monticello will hold a sunrise serice at 7 a.m., followed by fellowship and breakfast.

St. John’s in Montezuma Creek will hold a Maundy or Holy Thursday service at 5:30 p.m. Easter Vigil Service begins at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 26.

Events at St. Mary’s of the Moonlight in Oljato are on Good Friday at noon and Stations of the Cross at 1 p.m. Easter Sunday services are at 9 a.m. with Holy Eucharist.

The First Baptist Church in Monticello will have breakfast at 8:45 a.m., Sunday School at 9:45, Worship Service at 11 and Fellowship at 5 p.m.

Local congregations of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will hold regular church services. Sacrament services generally start at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sunday.

A Community Easter Egg Hunt will be held at the Bluff Fort on Saturday, March 26, beginning at 10 a.m. for kids ages three to 12. Bring your own basket.

A community Easter Egg Hunt will be held at the Veterans Memorial Park in Monticello on Saturday, March 26 at 10 a.m.

The event is sponsored by the San Juan Chamber of Commerce.

Southeast Utah is filled with tourists participating in the annual Easter Safari Weekend, which is headquartered in Moab.
