The San Juan cross county teams finished up the season at the UHSAA State Cross Country race held at Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City on Wednesday October 19.

The entire girls team qualified for the race and represented San Juan well, taking fifth place out of 11 teams from the 2A ranks.

The Lady Broncos were led by freshman Rachel Barton, who placed 14th with a time of 20:36.9, just 2:38 behind the first place runner.

Alexsis James, with a time of 20:48.8; Nizhoni Warren (22:06.6); Jessica Walker (22:26.1); and Celeste Hillhouse (22:53.9); round out the scoring runners for San Juan.

Freshmen Jaylyn Swenson (23:53.5) and Riana James (30:24.8) also completed the race for the Broncos.

While the boys cross country team didn’t qualify for the 2A State Championship race, they were still represented well by three runners.

Senior Thomas Hook, freshman Kade Francom and senior Garrett Chamberlain all competed in the race.

Hook was the first runner to cross the finish line for the Broncos with a time of 17:44.2, which is good enough for 20th overall.

Francom completed the race in 18:15.9, and Chamberlain finished with a time of 18:53.1.

Congratulations to the Bronco cross country teams on another great season.

The Bronco volleyball team finished the regular season on October 19 as they traveled to Castle Dale, UT to take on the Emery Spartans. The Lady Broncos stayed perfect in Region 15 play, defeating the Spartans 3-1.

Emery took set one with a score of 25-23 before the Broncos took over, winning the next three sets 25-21, 25-14 and 25-23.

Next up for San Juan is the 2A State Championships, which begins Thursday, October 27 at Utah Valley University in Orem, UT. The Broncos first game is against Wasatch Academy at 5:30 p.m. on court three. Win or lose, San Juan will play again that night at 8:30 p.m.

After a week off, the San Juan Broncos football team will be back in action when they face Grand in the 2A Quarterfinals. San Juan defeated Grand just two weeks ago, 49-0, in their final regular season game.

The game will be played on Thursday, October 27 at 6 p.m. in Blanding. The Broncos earned a bye in the first round of the playoffs by finishing first in the 2A South Region.

Grand finished fifth in the 2A South Region. The Red Devils advanced to the quarter-final match up against San Juan by defeating the Gunnison Valley Bulldogs last week 63-20 in the opening round of the 2A tournament.
