Dr. Bryce Peterson is the newest member of the medical family to join the San Juan Health Service District. He begins his first shift in the clinics and San Juan Hospital on Friday, June 28 as a Family Practice Physician.
Dr. Peterson is joined on the staff by his wife, Shonni Peterson. She is a nurse. This certainly makes them a dynamic couple ready to help the people of San Juan County.
After Peterson visited the San Juan Hospital on a recruiting trip, he left very impressed. Dr. Peterson said, “What an amazing facility in such a small community.”
Dr. Peterson is a native of Bountiful, UT. He attended the University of Utah after graduating from high school and serving an LDS mission. At the U of U, he graduated with honors and served as the President of the Student Senate.
After graduating from the University of Utah, Dr. Peterson attended medical school at Ohio State University. At medical school, he said he couldn’t choose just one subject to study and instead, he chose all. He follows in his father’s footsteps to become a family practitioner.
Peterson recently completed his residency at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, UT and follows a familiar path from McKay-Dee to San Juan County.
Other physicians who came to San Juan Hospital after a McKay-Dee residency include Dr. Joel Porter, Dr. Curtis Black, and Dr. Kelly Jeppesen.
San Juan Hospital CEO Phil Lowe is delighted to welcome Dr. Peterson. “The arrival of Dr. Peterson fills our needs for Family Practice Physicians,” explained Lowe.
Peterson joins Dr. Black, Dr. Jeppesen, Dr. Paul Reay, two Physician Assistants and a Nurse Practitioner at the hospital and clinics.
Lowe also points out that the hospital has general and orthopedic surgeons on staff, in addition to experienced and dedicated nursing, laboratory, surgical, radiology and primary care staffs.
When asked why he chose to start his career in San Juan County, Dr. Peterson picked two words: Fun and Adventure.
Dr. Peterson and his wife are very excited to be moving to the county to experience the beautiful area that surrounds us. Shonni was a junior national mountain bike champion, and they can’t wait to hit the local trails.
