The Monticello Buckaroo wrestlers had a busy week with two duals and a tournament and showed some great moves on their way to near perfect wins over the Grand County Red Devils and the San Juan Broncos.
The Bucks travelled to Moab, where the varsity squad went 6-0 in a big 52-12 win over the Red Devils.
Brandin Clark led off with a second period fall, followed by Chance Weahkee, who earned an exciting 4-3 win in an intense match up.
Hunter Bowring dominated his match in a 13-0 victory before Brandon Musselman put a first period fall in the books.
Cole Eldredge was in total control at 12-1 before his second period win by fall.
Isaiah Sheeran closed out the varsity with an exciting match that ended 12-9 in his favor.
Buckaroo Chandler Draper wrestled a JV match and put up a good fight, but was defeated 11-3.
On Wednesday, the Bucks hosted the San Juan Broncos in their first home dual of the season, putting on a great show while defeating the Broncos 69-9.
Dustin Christensen opened the night with a JV match, winning by fall in the first period over Rametri Holiday.
Daylen Warren led off for the varsity, getting an early takedown over Nephi Martinez and going up 7-1 before earning the win by fall in the second period.
Brandon Musselman faced Cole Chamberlain, and earned the quick 32-second pin for the Buckaroos.
Cole Eldredge got an early takedown against Jens Grover, worked hard and put Grover on his back just as the first period ended.
Eldredge kept working hard and earned a win by fall in the second period.
Curtis Baird got a quick takedown and put Coleman Black on his back early, winning by fall in 35 seconds.
Buckaroo Eric Anderson had a nail bitter against Sterling Black, keeping fans on the edge of their seats as the two battled for six full minutes in a close 15-12 win for Anderson.
Chance Weahkee and Dominik Perkins worked hard in a low scoring battle, with Perkins getting the only Bronco win of the night 4-3.
Hunter Bowring closed the night for the Buckaroos with a win by fall in the second period.
Over the weekend, the Bucks travelled to the Juab Tournament, where they put on a good showing.
In nine duals for the weekend, the Buckaroos earned wins against Gunnison 69-12; North Sevier 60-24; Hillcrest 72-6; Highland 54-21; and North Sanpete 52-27.
The Buckaroos were tough all weekend, losing duals to Spanish Fork and Beaver by only three points, and Altamont by only two points.
They also came up short against Pleasant Grove 45-30. The MHS mat men had two open weights, giving up 12 points in forfeits in evry dual match.
Hunter Bowring, Austin Wilcox and Cole Eldredge were all perfect on the weekend finishing undefeated at 9-0.
Brandon Musselman had a good weekend, finishing 8-1, followed by Jake Giles at 7-2 and Shandon Bradford at 5-2.
Daylen Warren worked hard on his way to a 6-3 record, followed by Jose Santana at 4-3.
The Baird brothers, Curtis and Drew, each finished at 4-4.
Parker Knudson and Chance Weahkee also wrestled a match in the varsity tournament and both earned a win.
Dustin Christensen and Brandin Clark also competed for the Buckaroos.
In the JV tournament, McKayd LaRose and Eric Anderson were perfect at 5-0 and 4-0, respectively. Parker Knudson and Clayton Westcott each finished 3-1.
Candler Draper and Chance Weahkee also earned wins and Isaiah Sherran competed well for the Buckaroos.
Head Coach Kent Adair said the team is coming together well early in the season.
This weekend, the Bucks travel to the Manti Tournament before heading into the holiday break.
